Dr Stephen Ellwood (BSc DPhil MCIEEM) is both an independent Ecologist and, separately, a Research Scientist at the University of Oxford.  For nearly 30 years he has had a parallel career, involving the development of camera and tracking technologies for monitoring wildlife.

Stephen founded Wildlife Savvy Ltd in 2013 to provide ecological surveys. He holds bat (L2) and GCN (L1) licenses and has extensive experience of surveying for European badgers (Meles meles) – badgers having been the subject of much of his research.

Recently, through Wildlife Savvy, Stephen developed a portable, Wireless Mesh, CCTV system capable of using Thermal, Near-Infrared (NIR), and Dual-Spectrum cameras. Wildlife Savvy has used a version of this system on commercial bat surveys, although it can also be used for long and short-term monitoring of other species, including in harsh environments or where access is difficult.
